Pre-Doctoral Psychology Internship
Christ Community Health Services is offering a Pre-doctoral Internship year beginning August 2020. Clinical and Counseling Psychology students completing their Ph.D. or Psy.D. from APA accredited/APA eligible programs must apply through the APPIC National Match. APPIC Match Policies are available on the APPIC website . Applicants must register with the National Matching Service in order to be eligible to match to our program.
Interns completing their primary rotation at Christ Community will be trained in the Behavioral Health Consultant model (BHC), a psychological approach to population-based clinical health care that is simultaneously co-located, collaborative, and integrated within the primary care clinic. Interns will be assigned a primary training clinic rotation (six shifts or 24 hours a week) for two six month appointments and will learn Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions for the BHC model. Additionally, Interns will have opportunity to choose a “minor” rotation (two shifts/ or 8 hours a week) every three months allowing specific training in a chosen area of specialized training which could include Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, HIV Care, Women’s Health, Refugee/Immigrant Care, Parenting Support, Medication Assisted Therapy for Opiates, or learn Trauma Focused Family Interventions at a partner organization.
Accreditation Statement: As a new pre-doctoral training site, Christ Community Health Services is pursuing APPIC membership and APA accreditation, but due to membership and accreditation rules is unable to complete either until the first class of interns begins training at our clinic. APPIC membership application will be submitted as soon as two interns begin work at the clinics with the expectation that the first class of interns will have opportunity to graduate from an APPIC member site. The APA application will be submitted upon the completion of the first class with a goal, but no guarantee, of achieving APPIC membership by fall 2020 and APA provisional accreditation by Spring 2022.
